Viscosity Calibration & Certification Services

Viscosity Calibration and Certification Services

Viscosity Calibration and Certification Services by Lab Unlimited

Carl Stuart Limited T/A Lab Unlimited is the authorised representative for the Brookfield Ametek Instrument range in Ireland for both Technical Sales and Service Support. Lab Unlimited engineers have been factory trained and certified by Brookfield Ametek to carry out calibration and repairs of their entire range including Viscometers, Rheometers, Texture Analysers and Powder Flow Testers.

Benefits of a Lab Unlimited Calibration:

  • Our Factory trained engineers use a Master Viscometer to calibrate all dial and electronic Viscometers/Rheometers. The Master Viscometer is used as a more accurate method (+/-1% of torque) to calibrate Viscometers as against using Standard Viscosity Oils. The use of the Master Viscometer to calibrate eliminates the need for temperature/speed/viscosity values as the torque value is the control parameter of the Viscometer/Rheometer.
  • Certificates of calibration traceable to National Standards are supplied after every calibration.
  • We are the only Brookfield Ametek trained company in Ireland that can carry out calibration/adjustment to Brookfield Viscometers.
  • Lab Unlimited have exclusive access to Brookfield product support and spare parts.

Brookfield Range Calibrated:

  • Brookfield Digital Viscometer Range
  • Brookfield Analog Viscometer Range
  • Brookfield Rheometer Range
  • Brookfield Texture Analyser Range
  • Brookfield Powder Flow Tester

Onsite or In-house PM, Calibration & Repair:

We offer both an Onsite and Back to Base PM, Calibration & Repair service at a time/date that suits your operational needs. We offer a customised service and calibration support to meet your requirements, Frequency of Calibration, Preventive Maintenance, Calibration Standards.

We offer a yearly/bi-annual/quarterly service and calibration or are flexible to your requirements within your industry.

All Brookfield Laboratory Viscometers are accurate within +/- 1.0% of the range in use and have a reproducibility within +/- 0.2% so test results can be duplicated anywhere in the world when the same model instrument is used.

FAQ’s

Below are some of the more common questions asked about Viscosity and the calibration and maintenance of a Viscosity instrument. If you have a question that's not covered here, please send it to service@labunlimited.com

Q: How often should I Service/Calibrate my Viscometer?

A: Calibration and Certification is recommended every 12 months to ensure optimum operating conditions however depending on the instrument use and the sample type tested there may be a requirement for an increased frequency. Our trained support team will be able to advise on this.

Q: How do I choose a spindle and speed?

A: The process of choosing a spindle and speed to suit an unknown sample is one of initial trial and error. The objective is to choose a spindle that will produce a display reading between 10% and 90% torque. If a sample has historically been tested using a specific speed and spindle combination, the user should use that same combination. (insert link to spindle page)

Q: What is the best calibration check that I can perform?

A: Test your Brookfield Viscometer/Rheometer with a Brookfield Viscosity Standard Fluid at 3 different rotational speeds to verify how the instrument responds when sensing low, medium, and high % torques.
Example:
RV Viscometer with RV #3 spindle at 20, 10, and 5 rpm Brookfield Viscosity Standard Fluid: Nominal value = 5000 cP; Actual value = 4850 cP.

Q: My spindles wobbles when it rotates – what does this mean?

A:

  1. The spindle may be damaged/bent.
  2. The jewel bearing, pivot point and shaft may be worn or damaged; perform the calibration check to determine if the viscometer is still performing within calibration.
  3. The Viscometer requires maintenance and recalibration.

Q: How is viscosity affected by temperature?

A: For most liquids viscosity has an inverse relationship with temperature. As temperature increases, viscosity decreases. For this reason, it is critical to control the temperature of a sample during any viscosity measurement.

Q: What is the viscosity range for the LV/RV/HA/HB models of Viscometers?

A: Please see below table:
